About Tulista

Tulista is a small genus that is endemic to the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Based on phylogenetic findings, the “old” genus Tulista (described in 1804), was re-erected by Gordon Rowley to accommodate the species formerly known in the subgenus Robustipedunculares of Haworthia. Even though only a handful of species are recognised, there is a lot of variety known in the species, regarding their size, shape, colouration, leaf texture and tubercles. Tulista is popular mongst succulent growers and many new hybrids and cultivars has been developed.

Caring for your Tulista

  • Pot: Tulista is best suited to cultivation in containers. Some species are also well suited to a protected spot in the rockery in frost free and lower winter rainfall areas

  • Soil: The plants prefer a well-drained soil, a mixture of sandy soil with some organic matter.

  • Light: The brighter the light the more colourful and compact your plant will be. However Tulista can also tolerate slightly shaded positions.

  • Water: Let your plants soil dry out for a few days between watering. Rather underwater than over-water to avoid root-loss.
