Malachite
Locality: Democratic Republic of Congo
Size: 70 mm x 60 mm, 166 grams
A beautiful Malachite specimen, up-close it looks like a dense jungle covering a valley. Some Chrysocolla is also present on the specimen and matrix. A really nice display specimen.
Malachite is a secondary copper mineral, often an opaque green banded stone that crystallizes and could form botryoidal, fibrous or stalagmitic crystal growths. Its name is derived from the Greek words, molochitis lithos meaning "mallow-green stone".
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), previously known as Zaire, is a large central African country known to produce some of the most amazing Copper, Uranium and Cobalt minerals, to mention only a few.
