A beautiful cabinet-sized specimen of Libethenite on matrix, with some minor Pseudomalachite, a nice example of the Pseudomalachite can be seen on the other side of the specimen.
Libethenite is a rarely seen copper phosphate hydroxide mineral.It is from the Olivenite Group and forms striking, dark green orthorhombic crystals. This species was named in 1823 by August Breithaupt after the type locality - Ľubietová (Libethen in German), Slovak Republic.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), previously known as Zaire, is a large central African country known to produce some of the most amazing Copper, Uranium and Cobalt minerals, to mention only a few.
