About Graptopetalum

Graptopetalum, or also known as Leatherpetals, is a small genus of about 19 species, mainly known from Mexico and also in Arizona, southern USA. They are easy-growing, leaf-succulents, ranging from small compact and tiny clustering plants to larger species with a stemmed or even shrubby habit. There is an array of leaf colour, shapes and sizes making them very attractive container and garden plants.

Caring for your Graptopetalum

  • Pot: Graptopetalum does very well in containers or in the garden or rockery. They do well in mixed planted containers.

  • Soil: The plants are very willing and can adapt to most soils, a well-drained growing medium with some organic matter works best.

  • Light: The brighter the light the more colourful your plant will be. Although Graptopetalum will grow  indoors, they prefer bright light conditions and should be keft close to a bright window.

  • Water: Graptopetalum are drought hardy plants when well established, but they will grow their best with weekly watering, depending on your growing conditions.
