Sansevieria trifasciata hahnii 'Gaster'

 

Also known as Sansevieria hahnii Cristata, this is a very unusual, compact, and thick leaved cultivar, with folded leaves. This collectors plant appears to be crested or monstrose of the compact hahnii cultivar. Slow growing plant but forms exceptionaly beautiful specimen plants.

 

Sansevieria trifasciata or also well known as 'Mother in Law's Tongue', is a popular and remarkable indoor plant. It is tolerant of long dry periods and has the ability to thrive in mrather low light conditions, making them perfect plants for plants for indoors. This species has been long cultivated, and numerous beautiful cultivars have been developed, including some beautiful variegated and compact forms.

About Sansevieria

 

Sansevieria is a large genus of easy-growing succulent plants. They are variable leaf succulents, ranging from small compact plants to tall cylindrical or flat leaved plants, being either rosulate or stemmed. Lately, the genus Sansevieria is included within Dracaena. The genus is mainly found in Africa, with the highest concentration of species in East Africa. A few species are also known from Madagascar and southern Asia.

 

Caring for your Sansevieria

 

  • Pot: Sansevieria species do well as potted plants, being potted, restricts their rampant growth. In frost free areas, they can also be planted outside and do well in the rockery.

 

  • Soil: The plants are very willing and can adapt to various soil types. A well drained mixture of sandy soil and potting soil works well.

 

  • Light: Sansevieria plants require bright light to maintain their compact growth. However, most Sansevieria can tolerate quite shady positions and other flourish in the shade. In areas with high humidity, Sanseveria is far more tolerant of the sushine.

 

  • Water: Most Sansevieria species are very drought tolerant when established, especially so the the cylindrical leaved species. The flat leaved species requires more frequent watering. Once a week or two would do.
