Cleoniceras Ammonite 

Origin: Madagascar, Mahajanga Province, Ambatolafia

Period: Cretaceous period (Albian Stage) – ca. 110 million years ago
 
Specimen Size: 61 mm, 58 gr

Also known as Ammonoids, an extinct group of marine animals in the subclass Ammonoidea of the class Cephalopoda. These sea creatures lived between the Devonian and Cretaceous periods and are closely related to the living coleoids (like nautilus, octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish) we know today.
 
These fossils were formed when dead Ammonites sunk into the sediment of the ocean floor. Theses shells wre then gradualy replaced with Aragonite and Calcite. These unique Ammonites has "Ammonitic sutura", which are in fascinating fern-like patterns, oposed to the more curved suture septa (chambers) of most other Ammonite species.

These beautiful specimens were polished to show off the intricate sutura of these fascinating extinct sea creatures.
