Graptoveria is a hybrid genus that was established to describe the beautiful intergenic hybrids between Graptopetalum and Echeveria. The nothogenus was described in 1949 to accommodate the horticultural hybrid now known as Graptoveria x calva, a hybrid between Graptopetalum paraguayense x E. pulvinata. This hybrid was created by Pierre Gossot in 1936, France.

The hybrids between these genera are very variable, ranging from plants similar in appearance to some Graptopetalum species and others more like Echeveria. These intergenic hybrids between members of the Crassulaceae family has brought to light, some very exciting new hybrids into the horticultural world.
