Deuterocohnia brevifolia
Origin: Argentina and Bolivia, South America
This very unusual bromeliad species, formerly Abromeitiella brevifolia, is known from the deserts of Argentina and Bolivia. It is a miniature plant, but forms very large cushion-like mounds of multiple tiny heads over time. This species forms very attractive and eye-catching specimen plants when planted in a bowl or between rocks where the plants will fill all the available open spaces.
Plant size: Well established plant, grown in a 10 cm pot is offered. The first photo is of the plant for sale, the second photo is of an older plant.
Caring for your Xerophytic Bromeliads
- Pot: The species of Deuterocohnia does well as container plants or planted in the rockery. This species looks best planted in a bowl.
- Soil: The xerophytic bromeliads requires a more solid medium, a mix of potting soil and river sand works well.
- Light: The brighter the light the more colourful and compact your plants will be. These plants grow hapilly in full sun.
- Water: These plants are very drought resistant but flourishes with weekly watering.
