About Dyckia

 

Dyckia is a large new-world genus with aproximately 120 species known from the Americas. They are xerophytic plants in the Bromeliad (Bromeliaceae) family. The plants are amongst the most succulent members in the family, forming rosettes of stiff leaves armed with marginal steeth and sharp tips.

 

Caring for your Dyckia

Pot: Dyckia species and cultivars are well suited to containers. Growing them in containers. Planted out in the garden the plants thrive and will grow faster in a shorter space of time.

Soil: The plants are willing and adapt to various soils types, however it is important that a well drained soil mix is used.

Light: The brighter the light the more colourful and compact your plant. Dyckias will grow in semi-shaded positions, however they prefer bright and sunny positions.

Water: Despite being able to survive lenghty severe droughts, the plants grow happily with a weekly watering in Summer.
