About Ledebouria
Ledebouria is a genus of extremely variable bulbous plants in the Hyacinth family. They are prized for their usually, beautifully spotted leaves, however many other interesting and beautiful leaf species are known. Most species are known from summer rainfall areas of Southern Africa, with a few occurring further south in the winter rainfall areas. There many species found in South Africa, but some are also known northwards into the rest of Africa.
Caring for your Ledebouria
- Pot: Ledebouria is well suited to pot culture. A smaller pot is ideal. Many species will do well in the garden and rockery too.
- Soil: The plants prefer a well-drained sandy soil with some organic matter.
- Light: The plants prefer to grow in bright light conditions and can tollerate full sun. They will grow in shadier conditions, however the leaves will grow longer and will not have distinct colouration.
- Water: Even though most species are drought hardy, they do enjoy regular watering (weekly or every second week), reduced or stopped during winter.
